Performance and carcass qualities of growing and finishing pigs fed with diets containing different levels of brewers dried grains and cassava root meal (BGCR) as a substitute for rice bran were studied. The levels of substitution were 0 (control), 50, 100 and 100 percent plus 2 percent vegetable oil A degistibility trial to determine digestibility coefficiency of dry matter was also conducted. The digestibility coefficients of dry matter, digestible energy and digestible protein were 84.14, 84.64, 82.52, 82.45, 82.55, 77.95, 82.48, 81.69, 80.47 and 81.20, 82.17, 78.97 percent for 0, 50, 100 and 100 percent plus 2 percent vegetable oil BGCR substituted diets respectively. The difference among dietary treatments were not statistically significant. Performance of the pigs in the periods of 30-60 kg., 60-90 kg. and 30-90 kg. live weight indicated that all dietary treatments had no effect on either average daily gain, feed intake or feed conversion rate. For 30-60 kg. period, the control diet was shown to be the least cost diet for pig weight gain. For 60-90 kg. and 30-90 kg. periods, the 100 percent BGCR substituted diet was the least cost diet for pig weight gain and less cost than control diet at 34.20 baht/pig for 30-90 kg. period. A 100 percent BGCR substituted plus vegetable oil diet was shown to be the most expensive diet for 30-90 kg., 60-90 kg. and 30-90 kg. periods. All dietary treatments had no significant effect on pig carcass characteristics, i.e.
, carcass length, back fat thickness, meat weight, bacon weight, fat weight, rib weight and visceral organ weight.
