Abstract
Eighteen 35 kg pigs were allocated at random into three treatmenst consisting on swill and sugar cane molasses type B plus a cereal supplement (A), or this partially sustituted (20%) by Saccharina (B) or gicabú. Saccharina and gicabú are either ground sugar cane stalks or filter cake mud biotransformed by solid state fermentation. Organic matter and energy digestibility were significantly different (P0.001) among treatments (A, 90,3 and 86,7; B, 85.6 and 83.7; C, 84.6 and 81.3 % respectively). N digestibility of the Saccharinacontaining diet was not different from that formulated with cereals but it was significantly different (P0.05) with respect to the diet containing gicabú (A, 79.8; B, 72.6; C, 71.8 respectively). There were no positive correlation among digestive indices and performance traits, but significant interdependences (P0.05) were found either among digestive indices or performance traits. The high level of crude fibre in Saccharina or gicabú could account for the depressive effect of these feeds on diet digestibility.
