Abstract
Ileal and faecal ouput were measured in either improved or not improved Cuban Creole, castrate male growing pigs fed diets based on enriched sugar cane molasses. In experiment 1, four Cuban Creole pigs weighing approximately 54 kg were prepared with an ileo-rectal, end-to-end anastomosis and were fed diets of sugar cane molasses type B and soybean meal, 67:29 in dry basis, partially substituted or not by 20% wheat bran. In experiment 2, a total of eight Cuban Creole intact pigs averaging 47 kg initial live weight were fed the same diets of experiment 1. Data were manipulated according to a change over design in 2 x 2 factorial arrangement, where factors to be evaluated were the type of animal, improved or unimproved Cuban Creole pigs, and the diet. In both experiments daily feed intake level was 0.08 kg DM/kg0.75 in two aequal rations There was no significant (P0.05) genotype x diet interaction in any measurement. It was found that genotype had no significant (P0.05) influence in ileal and faecal output of fresh material and water, but faecal DM and rectal digestibility of DM were significantly (P0.05) major or minor in unimproved pigs as compared to Cuban Creole improved animals. More ileal and faecal output of materials occurred when 20% wheat bran was introduced in the diet. Wheat bran determined a significant (P0.05) increase in DM output at the ileum and rectum site. Similarly, ileal and faecal pH was lower when animals were fed on wheat bran. This wo
rk is a contribution to knowledge of digestive processes taking place in Cuban Creole pigs, and also does provide information concerning the possible influence of several factors in processes of ileal and faecal output in pigs. It is considered that more information is required on this subject.
