Characterization of Semirrustic poultry. Broodiness
. The way to control broody hens is described. Said hens, after detected in their laying nests, are transferred to a house measuring 8 m2 provided with a feeding trough and a drinking bowl, without a nest or dark areas, and with rice hulls as litter. Water and feed cunsumption was at will, and a livingspace for 1, and 2.5 birds per m2, depending on the number of broody hens. In each house there were also four cocks, giving a proportion between 1 and 4 females per male. The selection of broody hens was carried out one day of the week, and when turning them ioose in the chosen area there were figths among them as well as matings by the cocks. Figths eventually decrease, but the matings continue. At the end of several weeks, all hens eliminate broodiness. Bythe 35 th week, the peak of broody hens was reached, with 5, 1%of breeding hens. Later on, a level between 2 and 3 % prevalied.
