Abstract
Technological management has been intensified since 1997 in the Cuban pig production, where the Swine Research Institute, as institution in charge of technical activity of the sector, and the Pig Production Group (GRUPOR), have played a relevant role in different activities. Technological management started through a technical advising to productive activities, by focusing on diagnostics, control and education, involving all the forms of current pig production. Advising has included too the elaboration of strategic plans up to 2010, and the identification of strategic areas for future development of pig production. Education is conducting from the point of view of management and technique at all levels of activity. It was identified the needs for transfer of know how, specially in breeding and fattening, including feed distribution, and also modernization of slaughterhouses and processing plants with the aim of increase the added value to output products. Negotiation with and links to leader enterprises in the World have been increased too. All these factors have facilitated technological innovation in the pig production sector. Last, work is conducted to identify and search current and other potential demands to what research efforts of the Institute must be directed.
