In years with a warm summer the broad been beetle has a great influence on the production of faba bean seed. Laboratory investigation have shown that the germination rate of normal and affected seeds are equal. It has been investigated that the length of roots and shoots was influenced in positive way if the seed had drill holes. This should be caused by an improved water take-up of the damaged seeds. Field investigations has shown that the germination rate and the length of the shoots after flowering are nearly equal, but the yields of plants from damage beans were lower. It is nessesary to make efforts to improve knowledge on the co-evolution of certain Fabaceae with Bruchidae. The results could lead to better understanding of the anxiousness of the group of seed beetles
