Abstract
A divergent selection experiment on phenotypic variance of litter size was carried out in rabbits. Selection was based on phenotypic variance of litter size for each doe after correcting litter size for the effects of year-season and lactation status (Ve). Selection pressure on does was approximately 30% in each line. Males were chosen within sire families in order to avoid the increase of inbreeding. Results of the first four generations of selection were analyzed using Bayesian methods. The High line (H) showed a higher Ve tan the Low line (L) in the first generation of selection (0.70, (P(D>0) = 97%). This difference is conserved in the following generations. Selection for Ve shows a negative correlated response with litter size and interval between parities. Parity interval increases has a positive correlated response with variability.
