Abstract
The biological activities such as linoleic acid peroxidation inhibitory activity, DPPH radical scavenging activity, and tyrosinase inhibitory activity were assessed with assessed with phlorotannins isolated from Ecklonia cava. Well-known synthetic compounds and polyphenols from green tea (catechin and epigallocatechin gallate; EGCG) were used as positive controls. The antioxidant activities, represented by linoleic acid peroxidation inhibitory and DPPH radical scavenging activity, and tyrosinase inhibitory activity of the phlorotannins in E. cava, with the exception of phlorogulcinol, were generally stronger than those synthetic compounds and the polyphenols from green tea.
