Effect of type of bedding on dairy buffalo performance was evaluated on twelve lactating buffaloes, randomly allotted to 3 bedding; A (concrete floor), B (concrete floor + sand) and C (concrete floor + paddy straw) for a period of 42 days. The daily mean values for dry matter intake, milk yield and milk fat % were 15.35 n 0.10, 15.42 n 0.13, and 15.69 n 0.29, 5.09 n 0.22, 6.04 n 0.22 and 6.07 n 0.26 and 6.39 n 0.12, 7.26 n 0.11 and 6.60 n 0.17 for treatments A, B and C, respectively. Except for dry matter intake, bedding significantly (P0.05) affected the milk yield and milk fat %. Provision of bedding significantly increased milk yield. The correlation coefficients were found to be 0.385, 0.574 and 0.336 for dry matter intake, milk yield and milk fat % respectively. It was estimated that with an additional cost of Rs. 0.75/day on bedding 1 kg milk was increased per day.
