Sweetpotato is among the five most important food crops in Cuba. During the last decade, production has suffered from the shortage of chemicals to control important pests. We reviewed recent efforts at integrated pest management for sweetpotato weevil in Cuba. These efforts aimed at reducing pest damage, thereby improving yields and generating economic benefits for growers. We examine the diffusion of these improved IPM practices, their adoption by farmers, and their costs. We then analyze the source of the estimated economic benefits associated with the up take of such practices and the economic impact of a collaborative project designed to bring this about.
