Investigation of screening parameters and genotypic differences for salt tolerance in okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.)  [2011]

Abstract
This study was carried out for determination of screening parameters of okra genotypes under salinity stress. Seeds of fifteen genotypes were germinated in mixture of peat:perlite of 2:1 ratio. After twenty days of sowing, seedlings were transferred to plastic pots containing mixture of peat: perlite of 2:1 ratio. Plants with three leaves were subject to 200 mM NaCl. The end of the stress, plants were evaluated according to 0-5 symptoms scores, fresh and dry shoot and root weights, plant height and stem diameter, leaf number, leaf area, the shoot concentrations of Na, K and Ca. As the results of the study, the okra genotypes were showed different responses under salt stress. 0-5 symptoms scores, dry shoot weight, leaf area, the shoot concentrations of Na+, K+ and Ca++ were determinate as that could be used in screening studies.
