In this Project, we studied the resistance of the Korean melon genotype Pl 161375 to cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) using a Near Isogenic Lines population developed by Eduardo et al. (2005) from a dihaploid line population derived from the intraspecific cross between the resistant parental Pl 161375 (Songwhan Charmi) and the recurrent susceptible T111 (Piel de Sapo). In previous studies, Dogimont et al. (2000) have shown that the resistance of the Korean genotype to CMV is recessive and polygenic and that there is a major QTL mapped in linkage group XII of the map of Perin et al. (2002). This QTL has been detected in a RIL population derived from the intraspecific cross between Pl and Védrantais. In order to fine map this resistance, NILs that cover linkage group XII have been inoculated to select a resistant one. At the same time, a candidate gene approach has been followed to identify translation initiation factors mapping in the LG XII because of the proven direct implication of some of them in recessive resistances to viruses. We selected a resistant NIL that contains the eIF4E factor that is directly involved in numerous natural virus recessive resistances. To fine map this resistance, we began to develop SubNils from the resistant NIL
