Résumé
Amorphophallus titanum Becc. is one of unique Indonesian native plants which grow wild in the forest. They have a big tuber (reach 100 kg weight), big flower/inflorescent (1.5 m in diameter and 2 m high) with unpleasant odour, and have a specific life cycle. The traditional uses of this species by local people is still unknown, but based on the potentialities it has the ability to produce a big tuber. This species has become interesting to be observed in more detail by many researchers. Because of the decreasing population of Amorphophallus titanum Becc. in its native habitats, Bogor Botanical Garden has decided to conserve it as ex-situ conservation strategy. There are many problems concerning how to manage this species safely outside their habitat. This paper discusses about the management strategy for ex-situ conservation in Bogor Botanical Garden and the study cases of the native population in Lawang Agung, Jarai, South Sumatra
