Abstract (English)This article is a review of findings on outdoor and indoor housing systems in pig breeding in relation to pig performance and meat quality. The main advantages of outdoor systems in comparison with indoor ones are low investments and better animal health. The main disadvantages are higher occurrence of parasites and influence of the weather conditions. Meat performance and quality may be influenced variably by the housing system as other factors, such as breed and nutrition, may play a bigger role.
