The rabbits were given a single intravenous injection of iron-free bovine lactoferrin (LB-apo), iron-saturated LB (LB-Fe2), endotoxin of E.coli (LPS) or saline. All injected substances reduced temporarily the iron level in the rabbit plasma, LB-apo and LB-Fe2 causing its greatest decrease. The mechanisms causing this drop of iron content in rabbit plasma are discussed. In the present study no specific removal of iron-saturated LB from the blood was found
