The potential role of lactoferrin (Lf) was first described as a bacteriostatic because of Lf is present in the human milk in a highly unsaturated form. No complete data are available in animal milks. The isoelectric points and the apparent molecular weight of different lactoferrins (mare, goat, donkey and sow) were determinated by the aid of electrophoretic techniques (IEF in immobilized pH gradient (IPG), immunoblotting and SDS-PAGE). Apparent molecular weight observed (72-85 KDa) did not differ among milks from mare, goat, donkey and sow and is similar to human milk. The Lf pI (isoelectricpoint) value is nearly 6.6 and different isoforms are evident
