Abstract: A new type of job description is more useful than the traditional format because it clarifies the organization's expectations. It also specifies the linkages between tasks, standards, skills and minimum qualifications. These improved results-oriented job descriptions (RODs) can be used in employee orientations, performance improvement programs and career planning. They also indicate that standards and rewards can be contingent upon conditions. Three examples of RODs are presented.
