The National Agricultural Library is one of four national libraries of the United States, with locations in Beltsville, Maryland and Washington, D.C. It houses one of the world's largest and most accessible agricultural information collections and serves as the nexus for a national network of state land-grant and U.S. Department of Agriculture field libraries. Extract: In a double-blind cross-over study vs placebo a supplemental dietary intake of 2.8 g of Spirulina thrice a day over a period of 4 weeks showed a small but statistically significant reduction of body weight in obese outpatients. Adverse effects on clinical variables (blood pressure, heart rate) or biochemical variables (screening program including 32 parameters) were not detectable; relevant side effects were not observed.(author)
