The National Agricultural Library is one of four national libraries of the United States, with locations in Beltsville, Maryland and Washington, D.C. It houses one of the world's largest and most accessible agricultural information collections and serves as the nexus for a national network of state land-grant and U.S. Department of Agriculture field libraries. This issue addresses various dietary strategies and their effects on serum lipids, e.g., which fatty acids have the greatest lipid-lowering effect and ultimately, which dietary fats and oils are appropriate; the pros and cons of supplementation with fish oils and with fiber. Concerns about cholesterol-lowering diets for children are presented. The new cholesterol-lowering drugs currently available in the United States are briefly reviewed. Strategies for teaching clients and patients a healthy lifestyle through diet modifications are emphasized
