This issue addresses various dietary strategies and their effects on serum lipids, e.g., which fatty acids have the greatest lipid-lowering effect and ultimately, which dietary fats and oils are appropriate; the pros and cons of supplementation with fish oils and with fiber. Concerns about cholesterol-lowering diets for children are presented. The new cholesterol-lowering drugs currently available in the United States are briefly reviewed. Strategies for teaching clients and patients a healthy lifestyle through diet modifications are emphasized
