During a study financed by the Piedmont Region and conducted by the Turin University and the Consorzio per la Tutela e la Valorizzazione dei Vini DOC di Caluso, Carema e Canavese, the wines produced from many Canavese area grape were studied. Results of the chemical-physical analysis, correlated to preference tests, have shown the vine characteristics and their organoleptic value. Once again the Barbera variety was positively affecting the composition and the organoleptic characteristics of all wines it was present in. Also Freisa, another important Piedmont grapevine cultivar, is very important in the Canavese area for the production of medium aged wines. The results were also very good for Nebbiolo, although the blends in which it was present were penalized by an excessive astringency
