Blending of acrylic tops of different diameters was used to produce acrylic samples with broad fibre diameter distributions similar to wool. Studies of resultant fabrics showed that the prickliness is determined purely by the percentage of fibres greater than a threshold diameter regardless of the detailed shape of the fibre diameter distribution. Comparison of the prickliness of wool and acrylic fabrics with similar fibre diameter distributions showed they are equivalent.
