A total of 16 host plants of the 5 species of Dacus have been recorded from Bangladesh during 1989 to 1991. Among these hosts, II belong to the family Cucurbitaceae, 2 to Solanaceae, and 1 each to Anacardiaceae, Averrhoaccae and Myrtaccae. The flowers of bottle gourd and sponge gourd, star fruit brinjal (egg plant) and tomato are being recorded here as host for the first time, although the last two are only occasionally infested. The nature, rate and intensity of fruit fly infestation of these hosts have also been described.
