Cultivar Goritsa was developed through conventional breeding. The pedigree method was used in an intervarietal cross of a line from the Romanian population F 302-K4-221 with the Bulgarian cultivar Pobeda. The aim of this cross was to achieve a good combination of productivity and quality. The cultivar was subjected to two-year testing within the system of the National Executive Agency of Variety Testing, Field Inspection and Seed Control and was recognized as an original variety with certificate RD 17-54/09.07.2010 issued by the Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture and Foods. In 2011, the Patent Office of Bulgaria for a new original variety issued a certificate № 10955 / 31.03.2011. Averaged from nine locations in Bulgaria, the grain yield from the new cultivar was with 9.15% higher than the standard Sadovo 1 during the period of testing. The quality of cultivar Goritsa completely meets the requirements of the group of fillers.
