The incorporation of Czech agrarian sector in the Common Agricultural Policy means that the so called European Model of Agriculture will be applied. It reacts to basic requirements of socially balanced and sustainable agriculture. The evolution of the total acreage of organically farmed land (OFL) in EU countries show an increase between the years 1992 and 2002. The average proportion of OFL in the total acreage of agricultural land in 15 EU countries was 4.1% in 2002. The highest proportion of OFL was in Austria, the lowest one in Ireland. The proportion of OFL in the Czech Republic is higher than the EU average (5.5% in 2002), it is the biggest one among the new EU members. The proportion of ecofarms in the Czech Republic is slightly under the EU average. The entrance of the Czech Republic to the EU is an important step to further development of organic farming.
