One alternative of feed supply having a good prospect is use of industrial byproduct like ricinus oil meal that has not been optimally used so far. Ricinus oil meal contains high crude protein (26.56 percent), but its use is limited due to anti nutrition ricin which is quite harmfull. The objectives of research are: 1. To increase nutritive value of protein, amino acids and to decrease anti nutrition ricin, through fermentation using fungi Rhizopus oligosporus. 2. To obtain dose specification and substrate thickness of ricinus oil meal based on the research results of temperature and time selected to quality of nutrition. 3. To determine anti nutrition ricin in fermented ricinus oil meal. 4. To find out the effect of ricinus on slaughtering weight, carcass percentage, carcass meat percentage, bone meat percentage, fat meat percentage, fresh skin product, fresh skin large, and fresh skin thickness. Method of experiment in phase 1: Experiment of effect of temperature and fermentation time used a completely randomized design with factorial pattern 4x3, repeated 3 times. The first factor was temperature (S): S1 = fermentation temperature of 27 deg C; S2 = fermentation temperature of 32 deg. C; S3 = fermentation temperature of 37 deg. C; and S4 = fermentation temperature of 42 deg. C. The second factor was time (W): W1 = 38 hours; W2 = 48 hours and W3 = 58 hours while for the thickness and dose, the experiment used an experimental design consisting of 12 treatm
ents with three dose levels and 4 thickness levels and every treatment was repeated three times. The doses used were 1 g/kg of substrate, 2 g/kg of substrate and 3 g/kg substrate. The thickness used was 1, 2, 3, and 4 cm. To test the influence between the treatment used The analysis of variance (test F) with Duncan's multiple range tests. The research in phase II used completely randomized design with treatment of seven levels of administration fermented ricinus oil meal in ration (R0; R2.5; R5; R7.5; R10; R12.5 and R15), which every treatment was repeated four times and each repeatition consisted of 2 rabbits, so then the whole rabbits used were 56 rabbits. Variables measured were feed consumption, body weight gain, feed conversion, slaughtering time, carcass percentage, carcass meat percentage, carcass bone percentage, carcass fat percentage, fresh skin's product, fresh skin's large, and fresh skin's thickness. Data gained were analyzed with analysis variance and to know the effect between treatments it is used Duncan's multiple range tests. From the result of analysis and discussion of experiment in phase 1, it can be concluded that approach of biotechnology of ricinus oil meal through fermentation by fungi Rhizopus oligosporus as the animal feed due to the change of value of nutrition as the rise of crude protein, crude fat, amino acid and the decrease of rough fiber and anti nutrition ricin can be used as a supplement to a source of protein designing animal feed (rabbit). At the experiment in phase II, a metabolizable energy of fermentation product of ricinus oil meals obtained is as much as 1.790,21 kcal/kg, which was used as the basic in the ration of the research. Results of the statistical analysis and discussion showed that use of ricinus oil meal of the fermentation product until 15 percent did not harm the rabbits, and use of ricinus oil meal resulted from fermentation at level 10 percent produced an optimal performance.
