The cell culture medium extract of twenty pituitary glands was used to purify a quantity of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) growth hormone (GH) in the order of some mg, in order to determine its primary structure and to raise specific antibodies for immunoassay. The main components were separated by SDS PAGE, and prolactin and the two trout GHs were identified by N-terminal sequence determination of two bands separated by Western Blotting.
