Banana growers in French West Indies are committed with IT² (Institut Technique Tropical) and CIRAD to reduce the use of pesticides. To this end, technical innovations are developed as alternative to pesticides, targeting the control of plant-parasitic nematodes and banana weevils. In this paper, we present the most promising innovations to control plant-parasitic nematodes and banana weevils. These innovations are based on the use of cover crops to restore ecological services and enhance biologicalcontrol of pests. Innovative practices also rely on the verification of the effectiveness of field sanitation and on the use of pheromone mass trapping of banana weevils. All these techniques are integrated in prototypes of cropping systems and evaluated with a participative approach associating growers, technical services, and research institutes, formerly, Sustainable Banana Plan.
