This paper reviewed possible uses of cocoa pod husks and juice or sweatings that exude from beans during primary processing. Pod husks contained significant amounts of plant nutrients, especially potassium and nitrogen. Alternatively, pod husks could be incorporated at controlled rates in ruminant and non-ruminant diets. Mention was also made of the possibility of generating biogas from pod husks by anaerobic digestion. The economic utilization of cocoa juice or sweatings also merited consideration. Cocoa juice, extracted from the pulp of fresh beans by application of pressure or enzyme, containeds up to 16% sugars and is expected to be suitable for converstion into economic products. Of the various uses reviewed, its utilization as an ingredient of non-alcoholic drinks or as feedstock for vinegar production is considered particularly worthy of investigation
