Metabolism and urinary excretion of paracetamol following oral dose of 2 x 500 mg was investigated at pre determined time period (0-24 hours). The mean plus minus standard error of mean values for the cumulative percentage dose excreted in urine for total paracetamol was 38.39 plus minus 4.35%, free paracetamol 19.59 plus minus 2.34% and conjugated paracetamol was 18.57 plus minus 2.34% in male volunteers, while in female volunteers it was 54.1 plus minus 6.34, 29.8 plus minus 3.67% and 27.3 plus minus 5.59%, respectively. The rate of excretion of paracetamol was less than one mg/min/kg in all the volunteers for total, free and conjugated drug. The percentage difference total, free and conjugated paracetamol among male and female was 15.71% and 8.73% respectively, thus indicating higher renal extortion of paracetamol in females.
