National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC), Islamabad  established in 1984, is the largest research centre of the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC). NARC, with a total land area of approximately 1400 acres, is located near Rawal Lake, six kilometers south-east of Islamabad. Physical facilities in term of experimental fields, laboratories, green houses, gene bank, library/ documentation, auditorium, machinery & lab equipment repair workshops, stores, hostels, cafeteria, audio visual studios, are also available at NARC.

A 3-year (1990-91 to 1992-93) study was undertaken at Cereal CropsResearch Institute, Pirsabak, Nowshera to determine the effect of plantingdate, seeding rate and weed control method on grain yield and yieldcomponents in bread wheat. The treatments were three planting dates viz.:October 15, November 15 and December 15, three seeding rates viz.: 50, 100and 150 kg/ha and three weed control method, viz.: manual, chemical and noweeding practice. Crop seeded in mid November gave significantly higher grainyield due to significant increase in spikes per square meter; grains per spikeand 1000 grain weight. Delayed planting in mid December depressed the grainyield. The 100 kg seeding rate per hectare significantly increased grains perspike, 1000 grain weight and grain yield, while delayed planting depressed thegrain yield. The higher seeding rate of 150 kg/ha produced maximum numberof spikes per square meter compared to others. Chemical weed control waseffective in depressing the weeds as compared to manual and no weedingpractices. The planting date X weeding method interaction was significant inincreasing grains per spike and grain yield per hectare as revealed by pooledanalysis. It is concluded that mid November planting with 100 kg seeding rateand chemical weeding is the most productive and beneficial method for abeneficial wheat husbandry.
