A field trial was conducted to study yield and economics of carrotproduction in organic farming at Horticultural Research Farm, NWFPAgricultural University, Peshawar during 2003-04. Effect of variousorganic media i.e. poultry manure, farm yard manure, kitchen waste, sewage sludge. NPK and control in conjunction with irrigation intervalsi.e. 7, 11 and 15 days were tested on carrot. The data revealed thatboth factors (media and irrigation intervals) had significant effects.Poultry manure gave maximum number of leaves per plant (19.74),thickness of carrot root (3.46 cm), weight per carrot (140.90 g), carrotroot length (19.93 cm) and total yield per hectare (32.25 t ha-1). Totalsoluble solids (7.74), however, were maximum in carrots applied withFYM. The minimum number of leaves (10.98), weight carrot-1 (74.92 g).TSS (5.92) and total yield (13.79 t/ha) were recorded in control.Irrigation intervals have no significant effect on number of leaves.Irrigation after 15 days has, however, delayed edible maturity, increased root length (18.56 cm), reduced weight carrot-1 (106.0 g),TSS (6.35) and total yield (24.65 t/ha). For all practical purposes, irrigation after seven days is the best. Overall, poultry manure seemssuperior over other media and is recommended.
