The Matica Srpska Library in its funds has more than 4,000,000 books and other publications. The Library receives the sample copy of all the publications of Serbia. Fifteen medicinally important plants were selected for the study. The genomic DNA was extracted from medicinal plants. In terms of DNA quantity ranged from 16 to 78 mg/gm and quality A260/280 ratio ranged from 1.15 to 1.68. These DNA samples were processed for PCR using RAPD (8 primers and 62 markers) to study the genetic variability in a wild medicinal plant species. It is observed that isolated DNA was suitable for PCR amplification, and band patterns were varies with the plants studied. Among selected 15 plants species, primer OPB-8 had produced the highest number of RAPD markers i.e. 23 among 62, and among selected plants, madhunasi (Gymnema sylvestre B.Br.) had produced the highest number of RAPD markers i.e. 13 among 62. Polymorphic and monomorphic band patterns were calculated for the discrimination of the plants studied.
