It is known that the feed production cost reduction and its rational use are some of the main components of energy saving at the milk production. The need for natural feeds, croplands and natural forage grounds depends on the animal-breeding enterprises size, type of feeding, animal performance. For a farm with 200 animals it is more economic to prepare silo and haylage in polyethylene arms, and with 400 animals – in trenches. On the Russian forage machinery market there are both imported and domestic samples. The trend of the market is moving the demand from the low-power 300 HP forage harvesters segment into more energy powered ones - 400-500 HP. Low-power harvesters are in demand in small farms (with 400-500 animals) that is why they will not soon leave the Russian market. According to "Gomelselmash" (Belarus) statistics 2 /3 of amount of exported to Russia harvesters have 300 HP (KG-6, KSK-600 models) and 1/3 of the market is occupied by KVK-800 450 HP forage harvesters. Domestic "Rostselmash" had introduced RSM 1401 forage harvester, equipped with MTU OM 460 LA engine of 500 HP. Glaas Company offers Jaguar 970 (775 HP) and Jaguar 980 (884 HP) forage harvesters. The New Holland firm's forage harvesters have the maximum capacity of 850 HP, and the Krone company had introduced the most high performance to date, forage harvester Krone BiGX with 1100 HP power. r of which exceeds 600 animals, and the volume of harvested feed depends not only on the type of forage harvester, but also a sufficient park of machines for fodder from the fields to the storage site transporting. Only in this case the harvested feed cost will be low, and the enterprise profitability - high.
