Study of appropriate fruit bagging time using translucent plastic bag as wrapping material to prevent insect pests infesting durian fruit was carried out at the farmer's orchard in Chantaburi during March to May 1996. The experiment was aimed to find out the appropriate bagging time in order to prevent the most important pest of durian i.e., durian seed borer (Mudaria luteileprosa Holloway). The experiment was conducted by designing in RCB with 3 treatments and 7 replicates (trees) and selecting 10 fruits as a sampling unit. There were two bagging times viz., 6 and 8 weeks after fruit setting represent as early and late bagging times, respectively, compared with unbagged as a control treatment. It was found that bagging the fruit at 6 weeks after fruit setting gave a 100 percent of prevention to durian seed borer whereas bagging at 8 weeks and unbagged treatment had 2.86 percent and 17.14 percent damages, respectively. Since the development time of egg and larval was not greater than 35 days whereas the interval between bagging and harvest was around 38 days. This indicated that the infestation should have occurred before the late bagging was done. Moreover, plastic bag had a slight effect on the color of the fruit peel.
