A study characterized and compared the diets of 13 college women basketball players and 9 college women gymnasts for energy and nutrient intakes. Mean energy intakes were similar between the 2 groups (ca. 30 kcal/kg/day), and the total mean energy intake for all subjects (1932 kcal/day) was 325 kcal/day higher than that of US women of the same age. While the overall mean intakes of all subjects were adequate for vitamins A, B2, B12, C, and niacin, their intakes of vitamin B6, Fe, Mg, and Zn were less than 70 per cent of the RDA's. Height, weight, and nutrient intake data for these women are presented.(wz)
