The National Agricultural Library is one of four national libraries of the United States, with locations in Beltsville, Maryland and Washington, D.C. A brief overview summarizes the views and conclusions of an expert scientific panel addressing interactions between energy intake and obesity, with regard to recommendations for body weight standards and classifications. Specific attention was given to the classification of obesity, the health risks associated with obesity, body fat distribution and risk factors, energy balance and storage, and studies of post-obese patients. Four recommenations for further investigations in obesity treatment are included.(wz)
