The following has been established by this study: Chymosin activity in the rennet content of newborn calves varies greatly before their first colostrum meal, while in some of the animals it was not even detected. There is some difference in the chymosin activity of calves which were calved during different seasons of the year. There is no difference between the chymosin activity in the rennet content of live or stillborn calves. The rate of chymosin activity has a tendency of increasing with regard to time. It was established the intensity of chymosin activity is related to the appearance of the disease and the death of the calves.
