The chemical composition and nitrogen content were studied in representative samples from six batches of two earthworms species (Eisenia foetida and Eudrilus eugeniae) freeze dried. Dry matter mean (%) and crude protein content (% DM) were: 20.44 and 62.13; 22.40 and 58.87, respectively. The ash content (% DM) was different (P0.01) between the species: 10.94 and 13.68, respectively. The other nutrients content (% DM) were: ether extract, 8.63 and 7.90; crude fibre,2.02 and 2.29; insoluble dietary fibre, 9.19 and 11.01; calcium, 1.69 and 1.87; phosphorus, 1.17 and 1.16; energy (kJ/g MS), 21.19 and 19.79, respectively. The aminoacids quantification suggest an adequate aminoacid profile without observing noted differences regarding the composition of aminoacids between species. According to the two-step in vitro digestibility (pepsin/pancreatin) no significant differences in the types of earthworms for organic matter were found (91.07 and 88.17%, respectively) although there was significant differences (P0.01) for nitrogen digestibility (92.73 and 88.17%). The levels founded in the differents sanitaries parameters surpass the tolerance limits established in feed. That may be better thought biological or termical treatments. It is suggested that two earthworms species may be a source of protein to some animals.
