Ardisia elliptica Thunb. belongs to the plant family Myrsinaceae. Phytochemical study on the ethyl acetate fraction of the leaves of A. elliptica has resulted in the isolation of three compounds, 5-pentadecylbenzene-l,3-diol or 5-pentadecylresorcinol (1), alpha-amyrin (2) and taraxerone (3). The chemical structures were established using modem spectroscopic techniques. This is the first report of the isolation of 5-pentadecylbenzene-l,3-diol from this species.
