The paper focuses on wine imports into the Czech Republic in the period of 2000-2003 with a special attention paid to the imports from the European Union countries. Wine was imported from 48 countries in total, 86% of wine was imported from Italy, Austria, Spain, Slovakia, Hungary and France.

The relation between ruminant nutrition and BSE is discussed and an "ammonia-magnesium" theory is proposed. According to this theory the abnormal behaviour and CNS malfunction is a consequence of hyperammonemia and hypomagnesemia.
