Pulping studies of sungrass [Imperata cylindrica beauv.] by sulfate process
1980
Das, P. | Hossain, M.Z.
An investigation to find out the suitability of sungrass (Imperata cylindrica beauv.) for the production of sulfate pulp was made. Preparations with different percent of active alkali and sulfidity and with different ranges of temperature and time were made. No unusual equipment or techniques were required for the production of sungrass pulp. A 20 percent active alkali and 25 percent sulfidity at 150 degrees Centigrade for 120 minutes gave the maximum yield. The results indicate that the sungrass pulp is suitable for the manufacture of writing, printing and wrapping papers.
