The distribution and taxonomic significance of alkaloids in some wild species of solanaceae from Iraq
1983
Al-Samarraie, Kh.W.A.
It was found in this study that alkaloids distribution in these taxa more or less agree with many morphological characters which were used to distinguish these different taxa, therefore it was possible to use the alkaloids as a taxonomic character. The present study has noted, based on alkaloids, that the species of solanum can be separated from the other solanaceae and put in one particular tribe. Sometimes alkaloids constituents lead to put some genera apart and others side by side as in Lycium and Datura based on morphological characters and comparism, distribution of alkaloids constituents was made in different taxa
