Relationship among dam characters and calf performance in some beef breeds

Ninety two records of beef calves were analysed for the relationship among dam characters and her calf performances up to one year old. It was found that the size of dam was not significantly correlated with weight of calf up to one year old. Time interval in parturition also had no significant correlation with calf performances and could not be used as criteria for selection. However, weaning weight and yearling weight were significantly correlated. It was also found that weaning weight was the best character for selection. Some other pairs of characters were low in correlation and not significantly correlated
