The effects of lamb-weaning age on the milk yield of Chios ewes and the growth and carcass gain of the lambs
1984
Economides, S. (Agricultural Research Inst., Nicosia (Cyprus))
Ewes weaned at 60 days produced more total milk than those weaned at 42 days, but both groups produced similar commercial milk yields. However, ewes suckling twins produced more total milk but less commercial milk than ewes suckling singles. Weights of carcass and other body components are presented for lambs slaughtered at 2, 42, or 60 days of age. Regression equations predicting carcass weight from liveweight are given. Male or twin lambs required less milk per unit of carcass gain than female or single lambs, respectively
