Pathologic response of banana varieties at the UPLB gene bank of Sigatoka (Philippines)

Pantua, M. | Pordesimo, A.N.
Varietal reactions were based on percentage yellow streak formation, degree of leaf spotting, number of green leaves, number of standing leaves and rate of leaf emergence. On the basis of the observed incidence and severity of spotting, the varieties were rated as highly susceptible, susceptible, partly resistant, resistant and highly resistant. Majority of varieties belonging to AA diploid and AAA triploid group were highly susceptible. The degree of susceptibility in the AAB group ranged from susceptible to highly resistant, all the ABB type clones were resistant and BB diploid type clone is highly resistant. Results of the study suggested that there are 2 major factors concerned in the pathologic response of the varieties to Sigatoka:the first is genetic and the second is the effect of the prevailing environmental condition in the locality
