Seedlings vigor rated at 5, 10, 15 and 20 days after emergence (DAE) showed highly significant positive association with plant vigors (5, 10, 15 and 20 DAE), seedling dry matter (10 DAE), plant dry matter (20 DAE), seedling height (10 DAE), plant height at harvest and seed yield per hectare. The rated seedling vigors showed highly significant negative association with days to first flowering, days to 5% flowering and number of pods per plant. In pot experiment, the rated seedling vigors were found to have highly significant positive correlations with seedling dry matter and seedling height, all at 5, 10, 15 and 20 DAE. Seedling vigors in pot and field experiments also showed highly significant positive correlations. Path coefficient analysis of yield versus fifteen traits revealed that direct and positive effects on yield were contributed by seedling vigor mean, plant vigor mean, number of pods per cluster, number of clusters per plant, number of seed per pod and 100-seed weight. An equation model was constructed by stepwise multiple regression analysis using yield as dependent variable
