Changes of serum gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase values in experimentally induced toxic hepatitis, obstructive jaundice and pancreatitis in dogs

This study determines the diagnostic aid of serum gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase values in hepatitis, obstructive jaundice and pancreatitis in dogs. In CCl4 intoxication group, there were no significant changes in serum GGTP activities (mean:6.0-14.6IU.L). In bile duct ligation group, serum GGTP activities showed marded increases, beginning at postsurgical day 1 and rose to the highest mean value (342.7IU/L) on day 12. The activities never approached to base-line values. SGPT:GGTP ratio did not increase in bile duct ligation group, but increased markedly in CCl4 intoxication group
