Local variations of genetic parameters estimated on major agronomic traits of malting barley varieties cultivated on drained paddy field were investigated. Heritability of heading date and culm length in malting barley were very high and the local variation was relatively small. Heritability estimation for number of grains and 1,000 grain weight was low due to large local variation. Direct effect of number of spikes/m2 and number of grains/spike to vield was high
