This paper presents the results of investigating the resistance of a number of wheat varieties and lines of domestic and foreign origin to the carrier of the black stem rust. Puccinia graminis sp. tritici. The investigation was carried out under the conditions of natural inoculation and in artificial inoculation. Subjects for the investigation were samples of black stem rust carriers taken from formerly chosen localities. A large number of tested genotypes showed iresistance to single biotypes in greenhouses and to mixed biotypes in the field. In both cases the most resistant were Leed, II-62-81, ND-59-120-A, ND 63-36 etc. Some line were resistant when in greenhouses and medium susceptible in the field (II-8523-11M-1R-4M,L.A. 1496, C 4777-2B-1B-7R-1T and II-62-65). Somewhat higher susceptibility in the field was found in II-12495-11T-4B-1T line. The most resistant varieties in all locaties were:Vernal, Yuma, Zg 1911/76, Zg 4387/73, Dimitrovska 5-2, D-117-5-12, Arthur 71, Golden Ball etc. As for domestic varieties, the highest resistance to the biotypes of race 1 was shown by Orasanka, Zastava and Partizanka;to the biotypes of race 11 by Gruzanka, while Banacanka niska was the most resistant one to biotypes of races 1 and 2. The determined differences in the resistance of some genotypes in various development stages indicate that they have genes which are efficient at certain stages.
